3 Modern Dining Chair Styles for 2025
Our custom heirloom dining tables are a home staple that are designed to be timeless. We love pairing interesting dining chairs with our pieces to easily switch up the look and feel of your home.
Dining chairs these days come in all different shapes, colors, and styles- it can be a bit overstimulating. To make it easy for you, we rounded up our favorite trending and cult classic dining chair styles to elevate your home and leave an impression on your guests.
1. Cane Dining Chair
The cane dining chair, created by Swiss architect Pierre Jeanneret in the 1950s, has become legendary in interior design. Also referred to as the ‘Chandigarh chair’ its recent renaissance and surge in popularity is thanks in part to recent features in celebrity homes. Back in the day, the cane chair was designed for functionality and to be both humidity and bug resistant.
As enamored as we are with cane chairs, we encourage you to use discretion and invest in pieces that only use high quality wood. Personally, we’ve been duped by at least 2 big box retailers who canceled or refunded our order because of shipping damage and a subpar product. Cane is fragile by itself, but when manufactured in combination with a soft wood, is highly susceptible to damage (especially when imported overseas).
A personal favorite style we’ve tested in person are the Cane back chairs from Arhaus, made of solid oak with an upholstered seat.

2. Wishbone Dining Chair
The wishbone chair is the masterpiece of Danish architect Hans J. Wegner and has been in continuous production since the 1950’s. Wegner is often referred to as the ‘master of chairs’ and designed nearly 500 in his lifetime. But of all these, his 1949 Round Chair earned the internationally recognized nickname “The Chair.'“
Many designers have since adapted Wegner’s original design with their own modern spin, including a few featured in this post. Some common threads for a classic wishbone chair style are: a solid wood frame, a curved armrest with slightly tapered legs, and either an upholstered or woven seat for comfort.
Wegner said it best: “A chair is to have no backside. It should be beautiful from all angles.”

3. Bouclé Chairs
What is Bouclé? Pronounced, “boo-clay,” the name comes from the French word, meaning “to curl.” The fabric is made from interloped yarn and creates a fuzzy-like texture. Bouclé dining chairs can add a comfortable and luxurious twist to the kitchen table.
Bouclé is trending for many reasons, but is Bouclé worth it? The quality of Bouclé is long-lasting and durable since the fabric does not fade over time and in some cases, can be machine washed. These comfortable dining chairs provide a pleasant and warm ambience throughout your home.
